Working With PVC

So our latest project in studio, our last one actually! Required us to use two previous materials from other studio projects and then to incorporate one new material along with the other two. We had to make an object that created a field of light using only one compact fluorescent bulb, the bulb I went with was a 100 watt bulb and my three materials were cardboard, paper, and 1" PVC couplings. I honestly still am not quite sure where I was drawing inspiration from, but rather than inspiration I was trying to develop a concept from everything I was looking at. And everything I found myself studying I was never getting close to thinking of some concept. The only thing I've found that I really seem to like is that the moon takes nearly 30 days to complete its lunar cycle. Here is the documentation of what I've got!

One Point Perspective (REDO)

I've been meaning to post this now for some time but really just haven't had the chance, earlier on we learned one point perspectives and afterwards we had the option of redoing it and adding more value and scale figures and such. This was my attempt at doing just that.

Guitar

well I've got plenty of stuff that I could and probably should be blogging but have gotta scan some stuff in so that'll be up soon. But I finished everything today and I've been quite productive, so I decided to play my classical for the first time in a long time. And I recorded something really crappy and fast just to blog some & also check out our Canson Adventures. It's a blog a couple of us first years had an idea to start in which one sketchbook travels throughout the first year area and accumulates more and more work from different people. I'm pretty EXCITED about this thing for sure.

Observing Light

Alright, so our project we've got is pretty awesome but completely tough for me. We are too create a luminaire that creates a field of light using two of the materials we've used this semester but including one new material as well. A compact fluorescent bulb is our only means of creating this light. The purpose of this entry is to show you what images I'm drawing inspiration from. Truthfully I'm wanting something that doesn't just look cool... I'm wanting something with a concept, something that has a meaningful design and is purposeful. So I've been trying to examine so many things such as harmony between the day and night, how we people perceive light and react to it. I'm also feeling as if I want something organic in its form. These are photo's I've taken recently and older photographs shot with my Nikon D40.

So that's quite a lot of photo's that I've taken from various locations (Washington DC, High Point, Pilot Mountain, Myrtle Beach) and there's a different feel for light in each. But there are also some designs online I found that I really enjoy. The first was Alicja Wasielewska and her morph chandelier in which she experiments which fiber optic lights and creates a gorgeous source.

Next there is Lichen Studio and they have this very nice design for an oil lamp called the Migration, this design the oil is place in a glass like vial and basically laid on a base at a angle.

Lastly there is my favorite which is the Herman Miller leaf light which is an amazing gorgeous design and this wasn't the first time I've seen this lamp... I've actually drew it in previous post. Herman Miller in general has great designs in everything, their desks, chairs, sofas; practically everything. But the leaf light is just a great design and has a beautiful concept behind it.

Okay, so I think this has been long enough of a post. Stay tuned for prototype models... TO BE CONTINUED!
